Being booked and busy isn’t something to glorify if your overall health is failing as a result. So while it’s great to be productive and get things done,  your number one priority should always be making sure you’re taken care of to protect your peace and your health.

No job is worth your mental health, so it’s up to you to do your due diligence and practice self care to release stress and prevent further health problems down the line. It’s easy to put yourself second when your to-do list is ever-growing, but self care is essential for leading a healthy, happy, and meaningful life.

So be proactive about your health and discover these seven effective self care practices below that are a must-do for people who stay busy!

1. Learn to say “no.”

You don’t have to accept every opportunity or invitation that comes your way just because you can. Instead, listen to your body, and if it signals that you need to sit this one out, do it and don’t apologize for it.

2. Get a good night’s rest.

Not getting enough rest can severely impact your productivity and mental health, so make it a point to not only get your total 8 hours of sleep but create a sleep routine that you look forward to. For example, your routine could include a hot bath and tea before bedtime, but do whatever makes you ready for bed.

3. Eat nutritious meals.

Give your body the fuel that it needs by eating healthy meals. Skipping meals or eating junk food all the time makes it harder to be your best self. So, find some inspiration online or on Pinterest, and help yourself get excited about cooking great food for yourself.

4. Power off your laptop at the end of the day.

When the workday is over, I know it’s hard, but put that laptop away! Sometimes just the sight of my computer brings me stress, so create an environment that is truly centered on relaxation by keeping your work out of sight.

5. Get outdoors to disconnect.

Sometimes getting outside, and taking in the beauty and simplicity of nature is all you need to destress. Incorporate daily walks into your routine as a form of self care and relaxation.

6. Pamper yourself.

Anyone else loving the #blackwomeninluxury trend lately? Tap into your inner bougie, and treat yourself to the ultimate self care dates. Whether it’s taking a hot bath or booking yourself that facial you’ve been eyeing, just do it and go all out. You deserve it!

7. Schedule your self care time.

Please, let’s lay the excuse, “I don’t have time for self care!” to rest. If you can find the time to go to brunch with the girls and do a million things for work, I promise you that you can find the time to take care of yourself. So try penciling in your self care time for yourself so that you can stick to it!
